about

This is a book song for Slouch Book #2 telling the story of "Never Jump on a Grump."

lyrics

No no, Can’t go,
No no, you can’t go,
One Rule, learned in School,
No no, you can’t go…don’t go…

Slouchville’s a town, with just one rule,
Stay out of the hills, behind the school,
It was here, at the base of these hills,
That Elroy sat, smiling from past thrills,
..Curiosity Flared…
Elroy wanted, to see what he could,
In those forbidden hills, he felt he should…

The Space of the Grumps, a town where Grumps live,
Is within those hills, the Grumps all give,
They keep rooms filled with presents galore,
To give to strangers, who pass their door,
..The nicest Grump was Jen…
She was smart, about seven years old,
Jenny Grumpion, had a heart of gold....

So it began this day, one rule in play,
Elroy would not, obey,
Into the hills he walked, passing signs he balked,
Never ever, never ever, never ever, do you jump on a Grump..

As Elroy walked, he ran into,
Mr. Jelloptomous and Auntie Carol too,
Each was surprised to see him there,
They tried to warn him,
He did not care,
..What about the signs?..
A rule was nothing but a lot of words,
And should be broken, or so he’d heard…

He walked by another sign that read,
“The Space of the Grumps, about one mile ahead,”
It wasn’t long before he entered town,
Jenny was waiting, in a yellow gown,
..with Bart the Shlox…
Jen had a cart, with gifts everywhere,
There were flowers and Jewelry and an old rocking chair…

Elroy was thrilled, with the gifts from Jen,
They played with them all, again and again,
To a playground, they both did race,
They swung on the swings and had a chase,
…piggyback was next…
Jenny was shocked and tried to get away,
Never jump on a Grump, a rule you must obey…

Elroy laughed, jumping on Jen’s back,
Which made her stumble, into a shack,
They both fell, it wasn’t long,
‘Til Elroy noticed, there was something wrong,
..Jenny started to grow..
Her hair grew her smile disappeared,
Her teeth turned crooked, she looked real weird,

…So it was that day, two rules in play,
Elroy would not obey,
Through the hills he’d walked, passing signs he balked,
Never ever, never ever, never ever, do you jump on a Grump..

Other Grumps grew, the ground did quake,
Elroy knew, he’d made a mistake,
He clung to Jenny she’d turned nice to bad,
She tried knocking him off, it was really sad,
…should have obeyed the rules…
He jumped off, of Jenny’s back,
And landed on, a gunny sack…

He passed his friends, as he ran to town,
Sweating and scared, at what he’d found,
He kept running, to home he’d go,
Into his bedroom, his fright did show,
…There’s a reason for rules…
Now Elroy knows, no matter the size,
Obeying a rule, makes you wise..

…So now everyday, when a rules in play,
Elroy will obey,
For he’s seen the light, changed him overnight,
Never ever, never ever, never ever, will he jump on a Grump!

No no, Can’t go, no no you can’t go,
One Rule, learned in School, no no, you can’t go,
You’ll get chills, in those hills,
And Elroy won’t go…
