This here’s a story about a day, when men used guns to get their way, When bar room fights were sites of fun and bar room queens loved everyone, While in the midst a tune did play, a background drop to all dismay, To penetrate this golden age, Maple Leaf Rag. The burlesque queen with all her glow, appears on stage to give her show, The poker players pay no heed, their smoke filled air enhancing greed, A bar room drunk he starts a fight and all join in, it’s quite a sight, The piano player plays it right, Maple Leaf Rag It’s twelve o’clock mid afternoon, the wind is hot the battle’s soon, Two men step in the dusty street, they face each other at fifty feet, Guns are drawn, shots are fired, one man falls his life expired, But the undertaker’s got it wired, Maple Leaf Rag And out of town the farmers toil, to plant their crops and till their soil, The railroad men don’t understand, they want their tracks on farmer’s land, More shots fired, gunslingers hired, lands are lost and some acquired, And through these wars a tune is sired, Maple Leaf Rag The gold rush diggers mine their gold, then ride to town where it is sold, They stake their claims where minings good, dig shafts to wealth where rocks once stood, Claim jumpers though just want to lurk, to steal the miner’s hard earned work, More fighting starts, they go berserk, Maple Leaf Rag As sundown nears the stage runs late, the payroll chest has been their fate, Some men in masks have thought it best, to stop the stage and take it’s chest, The shotgun rider fought but failed, to save the money and the mail, But one day outlaws will be jailed, Maple Leaf Rag The Sheriff has to make his stand, a possee is what he demands, The poker players pay no heed, the burlesque queen she has no need, The miners only want to mine, the heroes though they won’t decline, The possee’s off, the day unwinds, Maple Leaf Rag

about

This album was a project born out of the love of Ragtime Piano combined with the era of the Old West with an added beat to be used by people who like to listen to music when they work out. The pianist, Rod Miller, played ragtime piano at Disneyland for 36 years and was known for his speed on the keyboard. During his employment, millions of people would stop to hear him play as they passed the Coca Cola Pavillion.
