about

I love ragtime piano and have always wanted to write a ragtime song. The problem was, who did I know who played ragtime piano? I wrote it in 1994 but didn't meet piano player Charles Lindner, until 2010, who was married to my cousin at the time. The problem with that was, he lived in New York and I lived in California. So..I mailed him a CD with me playing the song, so he could learn it. He called me up and with both of us sitting at pianos, we both played the song over the phone, with me telling him what chords to play on parts he wasn't sure of. He then went to a recording studio in Rochester, New York and recorded two identical piano tracks of the song then mailed them to me on CD. I took the two tracks into a California recording studio where they were transferred to the studios computer. After adding a click track and figuring out the tempo, I called in the band and they played the rest of the song to the pre recorded piano tracks. There weren't supposed to be lyrics originally but were added at the last minute as a tribute to the band and my buddies who act in the "Black Bart" films I produce.

lyrics

[VERSE 1]

Know what you're after,
Sadness or laughter,
Bad times, good times,
The latter I prefer.

I made my decision,
Picked friends with precision,
The fun type,
So good times wouldn't lag...

We made lots of music,
And movies, to use it,
Kids books...a world,
Created for fun adventures,

Jason and Jeffrey,
Stephen J with Ace, respectively,
And Lydia,
They're part of the Slouch Rag.

[VERSE 2]

Do you know what, you're after,
Sadness or laughter,
Bad times, good times,
The latter I prefer.

I made my decision,
Picked friends with precision,
The fun type,
So good times wouldn't lag...

We made lots of music,
And movies, to use it,
Kids books...a world,
Created for fun adventures,

Black Bart and One Eye,
Gibberin' Bob is the third guy,
And Gutless George,
They're part of the Slouch Rag.
